Is this purple circle a new standard feature being rolled out? http://i.imgur.com/TMnH0w9.png

It doesn't appear on all my posts, but I'm seeing it more frequently.

I assume this feature is specific for Craigslist. They use OpenStreetMap data to show a map and might add their own features depending on their needs. This is what happened here. So you better contact them.

OpenStreetMap is a project about map data. There are some example maps, eg. on osm.org. "We" have no control over what other people do with this data or how they display it. We just ask them to mention OpenStreetMap on the maps based on "our" data.

"We" and "our" refer to the OpenStreetMap community
