I am new to GPS s and OpenStreetMap I have a Gamin Dakota 20 which has OS Map of the UK on it, good for walking and I am up to speed with it. I also want to use the Garmin for cycling and want turn by turn instructions for ROUTES preferably on a roads only map for simplicity. Can I use a Bedford area OpenStreetMap, if so how do I get into my Dakota 20 or Garmin Basecamp? asked 14 Mar '11, 12:45 Bob Tate |
see my answer to Osm on Garmin or second thoughts look here they work http://www.talkytoaster.info/110304-British-Isles+Contours-Routable-GMAPSUPP.zip (link not working anymore). on my garmin vista HCX I can choose on road as opposed to as the crow flies (they do not use that term) so on road should give you what you wish. follow the instructions exactly. note: download can take 40 minutes, then unzip. make garmin folder, edit file name to gmapsupp and put in the garmin folder on the SD micro card as per instructions tell us how it goes. NOTE: be careful you don't overwrite your other map best you use another Micro SD. EDIT: I recently found that if you install a map on your Garmin and connect it to your PC and run Basecamp you can choose to display the map that is installed on the device on your PC screen. This also worked with my Garmin Nuvi 1310t and the road map was available, I am told if you have OSGB map on your Dakota that works as well. If you only have limited memory talkytoaster supplies OSM mapsourse Maps and good instructions for installing it. answered 14 Mar '11, 15:14 andy mackey aseerel4c26 ♦ |
