Is there a method to reset the metric measurement tools in the upper left corner of JOSM from kbl into m ? It changed with the last or newest update and I m not able to find the method to change it into a usable metric system. I wont be able to make a specific drawing without it.

As an asside, do you know about the measurement plugin ? It's probably a better tool than the scale if you want to use it to draw.

I’m only using the scale for buildings, as bridges, bunkers and ways, its sufficient since I’m able to use it up to 0.04 m with +- the normal accuracy for buildings. That’s more or less the size of a building brick. But Ill have a look, thanks.

… and when drawing ways there is the current way length in the status bar, too.

Probably you mean the scale of the map in the upper left corner which currently displays in "Nautical" units in your JOSM. To change try one of the following:

  • in the JOSM settings (F12): third tab ("map settings") → first tab → last setting.
  • right click the ruler box (if you have it there) in the status bar of JOSM and change to "metric".

Apparently "kbl" is the German abbreviation for the measurement unit "cable" (1/10 of a nautical mile), and is used as the smaller-scale unit when JOSM is set to the Nautical Mile system. That is, if the scale is showing distances less than a nautical mile, it displays it in cables or "kbl".

Ah, thanks alester, I only saw NM when I switched to "Nautical" for testing.

Thanks I just overlooked that one. Im puzzled how it changed in the first place.
