How do I upload track data of my GPS so that it can be used to improve missing road parts

1

I notice there is a large section of map west of Rockhampton Queensland with no road data. i have a recent GPS track for this road. How do I upload that track data so it can be added the the existing data?

Welcome, great that you want to help!

Please see the answers for im-new-how-can-i-start-to-help-want-to-insert-missing-streets-and-use-a-gps (the first answer seems to be most useful to me). You could stop after the step "upload to OSM". However, stopping here makes the missing streets not appear automatically on OSM-based maps. Every street has to be a added by a OSM volunteer mapper (someone like you and me) to be in the OSM database. The gps traces are used to position the streets. In many regions we have good aerial imagery available, so traces are not that important (but still useful!) there (currently).

Also see:

  • "Recording GPS tracks" in our docu wiki and the other menu tabs there. Most importantly the "upload" tab.
  • questions on this help site tagged with "gps" (sorted by votes)
  • "Contribute map data" in our docu wiki to get started contributing in general
