Counting edits over time for a specific location

I am trying to figure out a way to count edits pertaining to a certain area. I'm interested in counting the number of edits pertaining to Ireland over the past year. I don't necessarily need the exact locations of where the edits occurred (That would be nice but not critical). If anyone has any ideas or has downloaded edit count data and is willing to share their process, I would be grateful. Or has any suggestions on how I can accomplish this task etc.
