Is there a meta.help.openstreetmap.org similar to the various stack exchange sites so we can discuss the site itself without getting in the way of the OpenStreetMap questions?

I agree, we need some place for this. And we need some solution for the problem of help.openstreetmap.org rapidly descending into tag-discussion-central, because there are so many cases, where there is no good answer to a question, because the community hasn't arrived at one yet. So people push their own ideas on which tags they like.

Seriously speaking, how many questions can people have about help.openstreetmap.org that are specific to that site rather than OSQA in general?

Was my comment to @TomH that I put here about the percentage of meta posts so far deleted? Why?

There's currently no meta discussion site. There are two options that I can see:

  1. Technical questions about the software that powers this site can be asked / found on meta.osqa.net
  2. Discussions about how we use it can be had on the talk mailing list , IRC or the forums

It's really not a great idea for us to use this help system itself for discussions, since the ideal state is for a 1 question => 1 best answer, which isn't what you're looking for.

As for Jochen's point about tag-discussion-central, we simply need to give better answers - if there is no consensus, then we say that, link off to elsewhere and maybe improve the documentation on the wiki at the same time. That way we're giving the "best answer" to the question, and if we do so it'll end up at the top of the responses. I think it's important to underline that the answer shouldn't only exist here, it should be a referenced answer ala wikipedia entries.
