What is the url of the map you are trying to download? There are many providers of the osm data. Are you trying to download a .osm file from openstreetmap.org or trying to print to a .png or .jpg? Or other?
Can you tell how you will be using the map you are trying to dowload. Are you wanting to print a paper copy or use a map on a smartphone (which brand or app?). Would a screen capture of the screen image be ok instead? Are you wanting a map to use on your gps receiver? (Which make & model)?
So many questions......too few answers.
