A recent diary post has got me wondering about if I'm making mistakes without knowing it. I've been mapping since spring, and have been making an effort to read the wiki and the help pages when I have a question, and to just expand my knowledge of the protect as a whole.

That said it is entirely possible I've missed something, and have been making mistakes for the last 5 months. Is there someplace I can make a request for a review of my edits?

Add the tag review requested=yes (info) to your changesets (in the editor iD and JOSM this is done by enabling a checkbox in the save/upload dialogue). If possible, describe in the changeset comment text (when saving, where you usually write what you did) also what you are especially unsure about. This way other users can find your changeset and leave changeset discussion comments on it.

Hi keithonearth, and no its no direct answer to your question, try some of these programs to check your edits, http://keepright.at/ and choose your region in the left above window or http://osmose.openstreetmap.fr/nl/map/ since I dont know youre region, just try these links. You might be Lucky and dont have to depend on some one out of the community, check your own edits and dont start choosing to much at a time. There could be more but Im satisfied wit these 2, you might be.

... or see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Quality_assurance to have the ultimate collection of tools to keep OSM data sane.

I don't think that it's a good idea to refer new users just to QA tools. It's true that some of them can be really useful, but you definitely need to be able to interpret what they're saying, and it's not always obvious.

They can see where you have been working here http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/keithonearth and i'd be surprised if no one wants to have look. To see edits or traces click on them from link.

The place where you're most likely to get immediate feedback is on IRC - either the main #osm channel or (if one exists for where you live) a country-specific one.

I wouldn't read too much into why-oh-why diary entries like the one that you linked to; they've been a feature of OpenStreetMap since the early days. However, when a question was asked here about the most common errors other users make the top answer was "not mapping". It's sometimes forgotten that we were all new mappers once (when I started, the map was blank for miles in any direction, meaning all my "learning" was away from the public gaze - something that's unlikely to be true nowadays).

Another thought - is there a local mapper gettogether in your city? If there is, it's definitely worth going along and saying hello.

Besides the sites mentioned by Hendrikklaas, you can also try to find an experienced mapper in your neighbourhood that wants to check your edits. See http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/oooc The local mailings lists, fora or IRC are also possibilities to get in contact with nearby mappers.
