Just getting into mapping and would like to develop detailed maps of permit locations and the number of wells approved by the permit. The GIS data would be obtained from the State of Pennsylvania and I should be able to import to OSM. Data should be available by county and perhaps townships. Is there a place I can experiment with the data I obtain for downloading. I would also like to play with aerial maps and TIGER data that maybe more current than what is now on OSM. One other question. When a road project is not aligned with the aerial map projection--which of them is most accurate? I'm doing this as a labor of love and to generate maps that will help both private and public sectors do the right thing. |
Yes, there is a development server for people working on OSM. You will need to obtain an account to use it, but as far as I can tell your project should be acceptable. Or you could just set up your own test server, on your own desktop or on another system you have. See setting up a test server on the Wiki.
