What is the easiest way to plan a hiking track for use on my mobile with Osmand so that I may get navigation commands when doing the hike?

I think it would be easier if I did my hiking planning on my desktop computer and then transferred the .gpx file to my Samsung S4. At the moment I am using GoogleEarth on my desktop (mainly because that was the first one to pop up which I could easily use).

I'd be more than happy to use any other mapping app for planning. I am not averse to doing the planning on my mobile if that would be possible.

Which devices and software do you want to plan in? Which are available? What is "easy" for you? Just a one time task or do you want to plan more often?

Please note that your question is slightly off-topic here as this help site is about OpenStreetMap and not Osmand (which is just one app of many many which uses maps and data derived from OSM). However, more people using OSM is great. And it would be even more great if you could report errors in our data which you notice during the hikes (via "notes" on www.osm.org) or fix directly by own editing based on your gps logs.

Apologies for the "off-topic" post. I am very new to this and feeling quite overwhelmed. But thanks for your input. @Allen001: it is still fine to ask this here. We are happy about everyone more who uses our work. :-) Thanks for the additional info, I have integrated some into the question.

Here is a list of the Track drawing websites on an OpenStreetMap based map in case you missed it on the link that @iii provided.

… and from this list I recommend gpsies (quite easy and many features even without log-in) to create gpx track files based on OSM maps (with optional routing). However, I am not sure if OsmAnd (do not have it myself) can do anything else (voice commands for example) with gpx tracks than to on display them on the map. OsmAnd can do voice commands if you go into navigation mode in OsmAnd (current location to a target).

Thanks so much. I somehow ended up in gpsies and planned a track, moved it onto my mobile and displayed it in OsmAnd. I will use it in navigation mode when I lead a hike on Friday.

@Allen001: Okay, fine! I am glad that it worked for you. It would be nice if you could report your track planning experiences (for OsmAnd) here after some weeks. It will help people in the future with the same question.

OSM offers various maps services dedicated to hiking. Some offer routing or at least route planning functionality and are able to export the tracks as GPX. I'm pretty sure that Osmand can read this files to calculate a route or follows the track.
