Hi there,

We're an outdoor company that would like to use OSM on our website. We would like to add GPS points to certain locations and also information about theses specific places. Does the information display also becomes property of OSM ?

Thanks for you help,

Thanks to both of you. I also found the statement that I was looking for on the website

Hope this helps someone else:

Hi Jski, the OSM map is not your own, anything added to it is visible for all of to see. Please read this explanation as well, http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Legal_FAQ. By making an account you just made the first step to become a OSM contributor, welcome. But feel free to use the OSM data within the legal rules found at the link above.

Note that I have absolutely no involvement with OpenStreetMap or any organization related to it. I'm only a contributor who has read up on what would be involved with using OSM as our company map background. Note that we're not doing it and have no immediate plans to use OSM data as a map background.

I speak only for myself and from my own experience.

The answer to your question is, basically, yes. See the links under Legal Issues from Contribute map data

Be aware that you'll also probably be using their tile servers, and there's more information about how to go about getting permission to do that (and what not to do) at Tile Usage Policy

Also, please don't mark this as the answer. Hopefully someone from OSM will come along and give a more correct and authoritative answer. I'm just trying to point you at some reading material.
