I'm looking for tagging suggestions for the many abandoned tramways and quarry inclines in my area. Although the actual rails are long gone, the constructions are still very visible on the ground along with the remains of the winding houses for the inclined runs, and are a characteristic of the landscape here. Many of these former tramways & inclines have since been used as footpaths, or even restored as a heritage demonstration. In this case, 'tramway' means small wagons for minerals, running on a non-standard gauge, often pushed by hand or drawn by pony.

Tagging as 'railway=abandoned' doesn't feel right; to me it implies a formality (and human conveyance) which was never there.

Am I missing something...

Hi Impvan, please use the already available tag scheme. But you could add technical details with a description of the used Railway line. See and read this link there several possibilities http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Railway
