I am collecting some facts and stats about OpenStreetMap and I am not able to find how many GPS traces users have uploaded to the OSM database. Is there some place where find it? is there some way to query the API for a current "live" info? Other related info such as number of GPS points, number of GPS contributors, etc. would be useful as well.

As of 23 February 2011... 757974 GPX files have been uploaded to OpenStreetMap totalling 232GB (many of which are compressed). The largest uploaded GPX file is 413MB (containing 3270112 track points) There are 2193427939 GPS trace points in the OSM database.

Really interesting figures. Thanks for the info. Maybe we can improve this answer for the community(you can edit it) by adding references for the data. Vclaw referenced the source for the number of GPS points and other stats [1]. Do you have the reference for the other stats?

There is some details about this on the wiki: Stats See the link for data stats - it doesn't seem to have the number of GPS traces, but it does have the total number of GPS points that have been uploaded (currently 2192363704). |
