I´ve tried to download a map as .svg or .png file, but the browser always pops up with this: "Error. The load average on the server is too high at the moment". Please wait a few minutes before trying again." I´ve tried it a million times over the whole last week, but it won´t work :/ Any help?

The problem is, that the mainservers are under heavy load, as a lot of users/scrips/... make use of this (static maps) export.

But as the OSM data and toolchains are open and free available, there are third party services that allow you to get an file for print. Also you can use a desktop renderer like Maperitive (and OSM data extracts) to render your files locally. Please have a look here:
