I have been asked about tagging UK footpaths that are considered child safe. That is they do not involve walking in road, have street lighting etc. Are there any footpath tagging standards in this area? Potentially most UK education authorities would use this feature to tag all safe routes to schools within catchment areas.

There are already tags for footways, sidewalks, street lighting, crossings, maxspeeds, highway classes and many more. Don't they suffice for determining if a street can be considered child-safe or do you miss something?

Indeed, "child-safeness" should be implicit, not explicit. If it was explicitly tagged it could become quite subjective.
