In the area that I am working on mapping, there is a conference center (Green Lake Conference Center) that includes hotels, shops, restaurants, a golf course, houses, cabins, a campsite, and more. Is there a way that this can all be tagged together with one area? The area is here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/43.8168/-89.0174&layers=H A map of the conference grounds is here: http://glcc.org/Files/Maps/GLCC%20grounds%20map%2011-24-12.pdf I have found no reason to doubt the accuracy of this map, as I have yet to find glaring errors. asked 23 Feb '14, 06:24 ItalianMustache |
Well I guess as this is a rather complex site, there is no 'perfect' way of tagging it. The only thing I know that matches is amenity=public_building, but this is also very general. IMHO if you map the building well (addr:housename, addr:street, website, alt_name, ...) there should be no problem to find it. If you like, add the included shops etc. as well :) P.S: Please be aware that even this kind of maps are intellectual property, so you need to ask the owner if he allows to extract it. An bonus can be, that they will provide you with further information and/or embedd OSM to their page, too ;) answered 23 Feb '14, 09:53 iii 1
About your "P.S.": This is a legal question and depends on local laws, but usually mapping publicly available information is not restricted by copyright or similar rules. The rules only come in play if you copy an existing work, such as a map.

You could take a look at the proposed feature for conference centre on the wiki https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Conference_Centre That suggests that you can tag the area as amenity=community_centre answered 23 Feb '14, 18:46 escada 4
No, a community centre is different - it is mostly for the use of locals (think meeting hall for the knitting club), and is usually run by the locals or by the local government. amenity=conference_centre sounds right, though.
