Hi there,

We are unable to see the map on the OSM website. We can get into the website with no problems, it's just that the map isn't there.

We are using Windows 8.1. Our other computer runs on Windows XP, and we have no problem, and also we have a laptop which runs on Windows 7, and there no problem.

Please can anyone advise us about this?

What do you see if you try to open a single tile from this URL in your browser : https://c.tile.openstreetmap.org/17/74262/44420.png or from this one : http://c.tile.openstreetmap.org/17/74262/44420.png (the first is https and the second is http) ? Did you try on the same computer with a diffent browser ? Do you know if javascript is blocked ?

Hi, Thanks for replying to my query. When I open both links that you've provided I see a square with a small bit of map. Regarding JavaScript, the only mention I can find of it at the moment is a comment while opening an Open Office database. It says "Java runtime environment (JRE) already installed". I don't know if this is what you're referring to, and I'm not sure where to look to find out about javascript.

One thing that I didn't mention - this is a very new computer, and we're still feeling our way having made the jump from XP.

Hi - We've just found out that javascript is definitely enable on this PC.

Java (JRE) is completely different from JavaScript. You may want to see this page from Microsoft on how to enable JavaScript: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/howtoscript

"I see a square with a small bit of map.". This means that your network configuration is working fine (your problem might be a firewall issue). What is your browser ? InternetExplorer ? Did you try with another like Opera or Firefox ? Did you try InternetExplorer in Metro mode and classic (desktop) mode ?

We've tried IE11 and Firefox.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Metro mode and classic (desktop) mode". But we've not knowingly made any changes to Internet Explorer, we're just using it as we found it.

.. and does it work in Firefox on this PC?

I just opened the map on www.osm.org without problems with IE11 (desktop mode) on Win 8.1.

We've been trying to connect to OSM with IE11 and also Firefox, with no success with either. We think we must have something set wrongly on our PC, but can't fathom out what.

try under a new (test) user account (you can easily create one in the system settings).

In reply to the comment from aseere4c26, using a different user account makes no difference.

However, all other mapping websites work fine - Google Maps, Bing Maps, Streetmap, Michelin etc - I can't find another one that doesn't display the map. This is all very disappointing, as I only discovered Open Streetmap about a year ago.

We're wondering if we've got something set wrongly in Internet Options. But as I've said in an earlier posting on this thread, this is a new computer and we're currently working with the defaults: we've changed very little so far as we're still feeling our way with a new computer and Windows 8.1.
