Hi, anyone can tell me where/how to find/build the whole map of paris in black and white as can be seen on the website : http://www.openwhatevermap.org/?zoom=5&lat=47.24941&lon=1.3623&layers=B when we zoom in on Paris The streets are in black (one big fat line per street), their names written next to it, quiet convenient for a map to print. Thanks a lot Polyngo

If you right-click on a tile in the browser and select "view image", what does it say?

it just shows me the small bit the website had shown (but it must have the whole map in memory)

When you do that, what's in the URL bar?

That was a very good question, because http://tile.stamen.com/toner/ yields me to what I want :) Thanks An extra point would be to know now, how to download in any format file a given area of the map

Sorry to have you jumping through hoops there - but as I'm sure that you've noticed, Openwhatevermap (which was originally created as an April fools joke) uses serveral different sources of tiles, and which one is used depends on both location and zoom level.

goto http://maps.stamen.com/toner/#12/37.7706/-122.3782, press "image". find your location, zoom in/out, etc. press make

In order to create the map in that format, you'll need to find some tiles in that style (which dependant on what tiles you need, might be a LOT of tiles), or generate them yourself. There's information here about how to set up a tile server using a data from OpenStreetMap. By default those instructions will create a tile server for you that uses the OSM "standard" style.

A quick web search for "stamen toner" leads me to here. From scanning the readme there it sounds like it's not quite as straightforward as just swapping one style file for another; it sounds like you'd need to set up a "normal" rendering database and one containing "natural earth" data as well.

This page suggests that if you want to use Stamen's tile server (as opposed to creating your own tiles in their style) that you should get in touch with them.
