In the iD editor, how can I add a node on an existing line, to make it curve smoother along its real trace?

Thanks for the quick and accurate answer. And while doing it, I found another possibility:

If you zoom enough, a tentative new point appears in the middle of a segment.

exactly – in fact you just need to drag those points in the middle to the desired position and you have your new more reality-near point.

If you select the way ("line") that you want to work on, just doubleclick at the position that you want to add the node.
