Been doing some research and as a non-programmer it's quite tough working out which is the best solution for creating personalised maps for use on client websites.

For comparison what I'm after is an OSM based version of Google's My Maps. Something where we can create things like this http://goo.gl/maps/IP3PZ to be used on the client websites.

Do users have any experience of other similar software? Do most people use Umap for what I've described?

The key would be: - log in - control panel - Map builder - Data download - Good forum (like this one ;-)

Thanks in advance

@Submarine: Maybe it would be helpful if you would define "client websites".

We are a web development company; client websites could be loosely described as clients who want say a map of their hotel and amenities in their surrounding area.

Hello,

Are these answers still valid in mid-2015 ? I'm afraid from the limited contributions and tutorials on Umap and it does not have all the basic features I expected (properties visibility on map points, filters and others)

http://geojson.io looks similar and does not seem to bring more features.

What is the reference tool today to create a custom private map based on Openstreetmap ?

I found http://leafletjs.com which is a flexible tool with active contributions, but is a different approach as needs some Javascript coding. Is this the reference tools for advanced custom maps ?

Are there other free ready to use available tools ?

Thanks in advance

It sounds as if an umap instance would cover your needs (example http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/)

Simon is correct, coincidentally Yohan Boniface (site owner) has gone through a rake of updates and pretty much answered all of the feature requests. For those of you looking for personalised maps, umap is a very good solution.

Interface is relatively simple for non coders
