Why not ask your question on the new OpenStreetMap Community Forum?

After I upload a GPS trace I click on "edit with save" (Potlatch 1.4) and "convert GPS track to ways". My problem is that I don't see a satellite picture to fine adjust the waypoints. If I click now on "edit with Potlatch 2" I see the last place I have edited in Potlatch but not the place where I have just added the GPS trace.

How can I switch from edit GPS trace to Potlatch and still see the same area? Or how can I see a satellite picture as background when I edit the GPS trace?

If you change your default editor from Potlatch 1 to Potlatch 2 using "My Profile" / "My Settings" / "Preferred Editor", "edit" will by default open your GPS trace in Potlatch 2, where you'll see that (and can view any other traces you want to), and also be able to see the Bing background imagery which isn't available in Potlatch 1.

There's also a new editor that you can try called "iD".

… but iD cannot show your uploaded GPS traces (only local gpx files or all public GPS trace uploads).

No problem I like Potlatch more. More possibilities.
