E.g. on graveyards there are water-taps that are used for filling waterings-cans. This water is then used for pouring on flowers etc. That means, this water does not need to be drinkable (It probable is, but no guarantee). Currently, I'm using the general "man_made=water_well" for these taps, but that is still a bit off (no well, just a tap). Is there a better way to tag ? "amenity=drinking water" and "amenity=watering place" also don't fit for this purpose. asked 06 Nov '13, 22:18 hajo |
A reasonably often used tag is amenity=water (something over 600 times) which is probably the most neutral tag we have. All the others with the exception of fountain tend to imply potable water. I would add a drinking_water=no in any case. answered 31 Aug '14, 13:15 SimonPoole ♦ I agree, though I think it is very non-specific. Do you think proposing a new

I think the basic question is do you want to create a completly new feature or use additional attributes that are potentially already in use to define the object better, In the specific case something along the lines of amenity=water tap=yes drinking_water=no If you do go down this route please create a wiki page for the tags.

I have just proposed a new tag: answered 13 Oct '14, 08:39 Kotya 2
I don't think the man_made with respect to a water_tap is correct in an osm context. Check how man_made is used in osm... http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:man_made I feel it is clearly an amenity for the community as Simon has suggested and I prefer you follow along those lines.

@nevw, good point. I have conceived the water-tap idea before Simon added his comment and haven't noticed it later. Hence couldn't take it into account. It's great we converge. I've modified the proposal.

For future searh engine hits, here in Copenhagen we are using "man_made=water_tap" for this sort of thing, see the discussion here: https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/61285129 answered 03 Aug '18, 15:31 jonathanmh_com |
Hi Hajo what about adding man_made=water_well and ad drinking_water=no that should do. answered 06 Nov '13, 22:52 Hendrikklaas The water-quality is unknown.
