Hello everybody,

I want to translate OSM wiki to Persian which is a Right-To-Left script. Using its build-in editor which is not WYSIWYG is totally difficult and time consuming specially for links because content is RTL but they are LTR. Is there any WYSIWYG editor which can we use? I have read about CKEditor and some other in-line editors or even VisualEditor for Wikipedia, but They must be added by OSM Wiki administrators in site. Is there any way?

Thanks to all.

The newest mediawiki (software used by the osm wiki) version seems to support a WYSIWYG editor with RTL support. Updating the osm wiki software is probably a big task, but you can try getting in touch with the admins.

As a workaround, you can use any text editor with RTL support (too many available to bother linking here), and copy-paste the text between your RTL editor and the wiki input box.

As a side note, I assume you know about the RTL template ?

Thanks Vincent,

You have good advises. But copying external RTL editors contents only pastes texts not links, fonts, frames and so on. What can I do?

The wiki is using plain text in edit mode. You don't set "fonts" or "frames" but write special characters (formatting markups) like ''<text>'' for italic, * or ** for tabs, == for title level 2 and so on. In last option, you can also write some pure html markups but normally you don't have to learn html. Please read this http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Formatting for the syntax reference manual.
