Hello, I have tried on Chrome and Safari to generate a 2x2 landscape image of the world map but the rendering gets stuck at 10%. I'd like to use this as part of my school project and hope somebody can let me know how I might be able to print 4xA4 of the world map please. Many thanks!

Try Bigmap. You'll need a browser plugin that lets you save a page to an image file even if it is larger than the current view port; Screengrab does this for Firefox, but there might be similar ones for Chrome or Safari.

... see also http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_on_paper ... or type "print" in the text search box of this FAQ site.
