I noticed that Townland boundaries are already on the S.E. section of Co. Fermanagh (below the A4). How do I place Townland boundaries on some of the other areas of this county? asked 06 Oct '13, 16:16 jgill |
The OSM Irish community have an active project to map townland boundaries. See this post from last year. A listing of townlands which have already been mapped is available at : http://www.celtic-knot-creator.com/townland/. I don't know if this site is up-to-date. Townlands are mapped as boundaries with Currently a number of Irish mappers (including rorym, mackerski, and ManaboutCouch) are working to rectify and tile military maps of Ireland (GSGS3906) from the early 20th century which show townland boundaries. You can see the current state of these maps at the OpenStreetMap Ireland website. At the moment it is mainly South Leinster which has the best coverage. It is probably best to wait until this process is completed as adding individual townland boundaries will otherwise be a painstaking project. The best way to find out more & how you can help is to ask on the all Ireland mailing list (talk-ie) or on the IRC channel for Ireland #osm-ie, or contact one of the mappers mentioned above directly. answered 06 Oct '13, 18:01 SK53 ♦ |
User @DaCor has spend a lot of time writing documentation and has created a large amount of screencasts that explain it all.
There's also Townlands.ie which shows the townlands (etc) that are mapped. It's updated every day. @SK53 gave the old link. answered 03 Aug '15, 18:55 rorym |
Mapper KDDA is almost single-handedly responsible for those townlands that are mapped in Fermanagh, so it would be well worth your while contacting him to help co-ordinate your efforts. answered 17 Feb '14, 12:02 mackerski |
