Why are Street Names not found in NavFree

-1

I have just loaded NavFree on my Samsung Note. It cannot find streets in my local town Torquay Victoria Australia. The streets are on the maps and i can see them if i browse the map. Am i doing something wrong or is this something that I could help to fix. If I search via Google they are found and located.

I intend to use it in Europe in a month or so and I will not be online to get google updates.

Thanks.

This question and answer forum is about OpenStreetMap: your question appears to be about a third-party software product (NavFree). In general it is more appropriate to address such questions to the manufacturer of that product than the general OpenStreetMap community.

A simple check on NavFree's FAQ answers your question: NavFree does not perform searches on addresses off-line.

Personally I have a very satisfactory experience using MapsWithMe Pro as an entirely offline mapping app on Android. The (paid-for) Pro version includes a search function which finds road names. There are other apps which do similar things, but I have only used one other, NaVIT for offline SatNav. This also includes a search function but it is not as smooth as that in MapsWithMe.
