Hi,

While it is quite natural to put local name for a peak located within country borders, it looks less clear what to do with the ones on national borders. Examples can be found in Tatra Mountains on Polish/Slovak border: http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/49.1896/20.0616 Some are in Polish (Szpiglasowy Wierch), some in Slovak (Druhý Mnich).

I could do something like this: name:pl=Zadni Mnich name:sk=Druhý Mnich But then, with no name= tag, OSM does not render any name at all in the default view.

Firstly, the most important thing is to add the name in each language as you suggest.

For the name tag I personally favour the style used on Swiss tops maps, with the names in different languages separated by slashes: (Matterhorn / Monte Cervino / Mont Cervin). However, it is best to find a consensus with local mappers, as to the prefered approach. For example: placenames in Japan have a Latin script name in brackets; street names in Brussels have both French and Flemish separated by a dash.

Mt. Everest is tagged with name="Mount Everest" and all the different names as name:xx=
