OK... i used JOSM a lot a while back and I decided to start up again, however, all the satellite background choices are now gone. Is there a way I can get them back manually?

Hi, It's likely that JOSM has changed a lot since you last used it so the first thing to do is get the latest JOSM (version 6115) http://josm.openstreetmap.de/

This page tells how to modify the list of imagery providers http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Help/Preferences/Imagery

@SD Mapman: did you try to update to the current JOSM version? Which version do you use?
