Need help to edit the rules / skipping obsolete items ia Maperitive map before expaorting for use in a small booklet.

Opened Maperitive and edited the rules.

Sofar without result.

What did I do wrong? Used mapnik map Serlected a geographical part of the Netherlands (see my previous questions regarding retrieving a XML file.(Also not wellunderstood)

  • Tried to edite the default Mapnik map. Skipping obsolete items in the active rules
  • tried to recolor objects like rivers, farmland (red)
  • Saved the results in the default rules, expected replacing the existing default rules
  • Reloaded the default map

And then .... nothing changed!

What is wrong in my understanding of Maperitive. Please advise a remedy.

Regards, Peter

When you start up Maperitive, it will at first show a map made up from standard tiles, rather than a map rendered locally. No change to the style will change this map because it is computed on the OSM tile server. Only if you switch off the standard map layer and load your own data will you have a locally rendered map controlled by your local style.

You might also want to try the Maperitive Google Group which is perhaps more suitable for Maperitive-related questions.
