Why not ask your question on the new OpenStreetMap Community Forum?

I need to download a clear outline map of China, however, when I zoom to include China and immediate surrounding countries the only English names that appear on the map are Chengdu and Urumqi. Is there some way to get basic English names, or for it to just say China?

The default osm rendering displays names in the local language, but other renderings choose to display other languages instead, like English. Try for example the mapquest rendering, by clicking the "layers" button on the right hand side of the osm.org map, and choosing "mapquest open" layer. There is also a proof-of-concept multilingual map by Jochen Topf.

As always, the translated name must be available in the underlying data; please help if you can.
