Good afternoon! I've just joined up, mainly because "I Have A Problem"! I'm using Fedora 18 + KDE on an AMD motherboard.... I've downloaded OSM maps from garmin.openstreetmap.nl. First problem is that the map set I select does not always finish downloading, seems to get about half way then just gives up..... Second problem comes when I unpack the .zip file, again, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't... Then when I try to copy the unpacked .zip to my memory cards, the copy seems to run, but never ends properly, I have to click the "stop" button. asked 08 Jul '13, 15:52 Dave_B_71 aseerel4c26 ♦ |
answered 08 Jul '13, 16:34 aseerel4c26 ♦ Thanks. The file I downloaded is (or appears to be) about 1.1GB, so I guess shouldn't be a problem as such.... I'll look into it further. Dave

Yes, the file size should not be a problem then. Try another Garmin map and follow scai's advice to not download it to the device directly but first to your pc.

Good morning, Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I've just come back from a trip to Monchengladbach where my c510 was "not very effective"(!!), and spent the next few days trying to discharge the battery completely (since I don't know how to take the battery out...). Anyway after spending days repeatedly switching it on, I got to the point where I guessed it was flat, & recharged it. It now appears to again work as expected, so I'm a happy camper!!!!! Just did a trip to Fustenfeldbruck & back with no problems. Seems that if the unit is kept fully charged everything locks up. Maybe the temperatures the last few days didn't help!!!! Thanks again Dave

For the etrex make sure to get the latest firmware first. There have been various problems in the past (and there still are various problems...) with insufficient memory and all other kinds of stuff. Not sure what your problem with downloading the map is. But you should always download the map to your PC first, not directly to the memory card of your device.
Hi Dave, welcome to the OSM help site! Please only ask one question in one "question" here - that helps to eliminate redundancy and enhances clarity. Please use the "edit" function (below your text if you are logged in) to remove the second part and ask it in another question if needed.
Sorry!!!! As it was all part of the same situation, I thought(!) it was one question!!!
No problem, I fixed it. The old question text is in the old versions if you need it for copying. Please ask the other problems in a new question if you cannot find an answer.
