Hi. I was wondering if there's any software, desktop or mobile (ideally both, synched) where you can add your own favourite locations e.g. friends' houses, like stars in google maps? I know in openstreet browser you can add a marker, but you can't do anything with it.

Is there any intention of creating such a layer?

Also - and this relies on the first one - does anyone know how to export their saved places out of google maps so as to import them into OSM?

Unrelated: does anyone know who I can ask about having the openstreetmap help search bar accept boolean? Every search results in thousands of hits...

With regard to the second part of the question - help.osm.org uses OSQA. Their "meta" help site might be worth a read, although a quick scan doesn't reveal anything too obvious.

umap (umap.openstreetmap.fr) might be what you're looking for. It is a web application that stores your (personal) POIs on the server, and you can then embed and share your map. While it is theoretically possible that functionality like that might some day be offered directly on openstreetmap.org, I don't think it is very likely because openstreetmap.org does not aim to a feature-complete mapping portal.

(note: I know this is an old post but it came up in a search result and I thought I'd update it)

For those looking for an app you can use maps.me.

It's available on Android and IOS, uses OSM data, makes it easy to add POIs (which you can then "star"), and naturally it's open-source and available on Github.
