can we create a personal map to show a tour route?

It would be great to be able to do this and then embed it into our website..is this possible?

  • How to create an embdedded map showing a route
  • In our wiki there is a list of track drawing / uploading websites (you could make a screenshot; some allow/offer embedding - please check the usage policy, especially if your site is not just a small personal homepage)
  • Look at those previous questions for "private"/custom maps
  • And, last but not least, OpenStreetMap is basically just data - and, contrary to Google Maps, nearly everything is possible (as long as you comply to our license but you maybe need to program it on your own or pay someone). There is a list of already existing OSM-based services.

Have a look at the OSM wiki about Openlayers_Track_example

Maybe that example is a bit outdated, because development of OpenLayers has been a lot.

Generally have a look at openlayers.org ... or at leafletjs.org

On both webpages there are examples how to display any kinds of items on a map.
