Is this break on the river "Rio Madeira" correct? Look at the permalink:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=-9.18826&lon=-64.45222&zoom=15&layers=M
If it is en error, am I allowed to correct this even if I am from an other end of the World? Note that similar breaks are causing breaks on the OSM river systems. Thanks.river

Of course you are allowed to correct errors all over the world as long as you have verified that they are actually errors. And it is always a good idea to contact the author of the object you want to fix.

Yes - but I'd definitely discuss the issue with the original mapper. Maybe there was some technical reason why they weren't able to reuse nodes in the riverbank polygons?

If they're not even aware of the problem, then the next river that they add might have the same issue.

Just having a look at the linked place with Bing Aerial Imagery enabled shows that the nodes of the two pieces of the riverbank should be connected.
When you find irregular things in OSM data and can prove what they really should be like: just fix it. (and have fun doing so :) )

I agree with SomeoneElse that you should contact the original mappers if possible.
