Hi,

I am a volunteer at a food bank. We have 4 locations and would like to publish these locations on the back of an A5 flyer, so that people can easily find us.

I have found that the "Transport Map" is ideal for our purpose, as it depicts bus routes, numbers and stops. I would like to get rid of lakes, shading, buildings and train lines, (in other words to have "no fill" if that makes sense) as I am printing in black ink onto a red sheet of paper and all of these things just add clutter.

All I want is just the roads with street names, the bus routes, bus stops and the route numbers.

Is there an easy way of doing this or do i need to use photoshop?

I have room of about 4 x 5 cm for each one of the 4 maps on the flyer, in which to depict an area of about 1 sq km each.

Many thanks for your help.

Tim

Likely the simplest way to do what you want is with maperitive see http://maperitive.net/

Download the OSM data for the area you are interested in (if the areas are reasonably small you can do that via the export function on the map page) and modify one of the maperitive styles to fit your use.

Just in case it is not clear (we have this happen now and then): de not remove objects from the database that you don't want displayed!

Hi

I tried to downoad maperitive, but had no joy. I am using a Mac and it told me to download X11 and Mono, which i did, but Maperitive still doesn't work.

:-(

That makes things a tad difficult. TileMill is an alternative for producing your own style however does not work directly with OSM data in file format.

Your best bet IMHO is to run Maperitive in a VM with Windows. Or you could ask (mailing list or forum) somebody nearby for help.

Mapnik has a prebuilt MacOS install image which works on my Lion based Macbook. A bunch of cookbook info out there for setting up simple styles and Mapnik can directly use OSM datafiles.

You will not be able to make your own version of the Transport Map style (and render a map version with it) since "The stylesheet is not shared openly."

You could use a style offered at CloudMade Maps or make/derive your own there (style editor).

You also could render your own map - e.g. with Maperitive (mentioned by Simon).
