hi: I'd like to add street numbers to houses on our street (eastern end of Lornsenstr Kiel). Yet it seems that flash is required, and we don't have flash (older linux computer). Is there a way to edit maps w/o flash? Seems non-sensical for a project like osm to insist on closed source software. thanks, Gerald

Other possibilities include iD (if your browser supports it) and Merkaartor (currently not in active development but works).

JOSM is the Java OpenstreetMap editor, and is probably the most suitable approach for editing OSM without using Flash editor. (Note, this is increasingly true for all older platforms as Browser and Flash plug-in memory requirements become so bloated as to cause frequent crashes).

JOSM provides a range of easy to use tools for adding house number and address information, and has a richer functionality in this regard than the in-browser editors.

You can use any of those (plus more unlisted) many editors (among directly editing via the API).
