JOSM is opening Chromium for links, but my system default — and vastly preferred — browser is Firefox. How do I make it do the right thing, please?

Ubuntu 13.04, amd64, Sun/Oracle JRE.

Update: scai's suggestion of

sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser

worked.

meta: @Jonathan Bennett: you closed this with "Answered (and an Ubuntu issue rather than an OSM one)". Yes, it is specific to only a group of operating systems, but opening the right browser is important for mapping. This is a help site for mappers... so, please allow such questions here.

The point @aseerel4c26 is that it is not (or should not be) in any way JSOM specific - rather it is about how you tell Ubuntu your preferred browswer, and as such http://askubuntu.com/ would be the correct place to ask.

@TomH This is correct but an average user won't be able to know whether this is a JOSM-specific problem or a setting of his operating system. So he probably will try to find an answer here and it can't hurt to solve his problem by providing a working solution.

Where does /etc/alternatives/x-www-browser point to? You can change it by running update-alternatives --config x-www-browser as root.

It pointed to /usr/bin/chromium-browser, despite Firefox on first run claiming it was default. Thanks!

Had the same thing but fixed with with sudo update-alternatives --config gnome-www-browser

Additionally to both update-alternatives I had to klick in Settings/Advanced [Set as default browser] to make JOSM use Firefox. That suggestion I found here.
