I can't seem to find it anywhere. Seems the iD editor is very slick and nice UI but lacks a LOT of the advanced controls available in PotLatch. But back to my original question: can I create multipolygons (like a lake with an island within it, or a parking lot with a store in the middle) in the iD editor, or should I just use Potlatch because I know how to do it over there.

Yes, in the meantime, this is possible. Please see that same / very similar question: how-do-i-do-an-island-in-a-lake-using-id-and-the-multipolygon-tag

(old text from May 2013: ) iD is just released, not every possible feature is implemented. Relations (which multipolygons are) are coming.
