I had to start this new account with a different email because OpenStreetMap is not recognizing my original email account when i request a new password. How do i fix this? What do you mean by "not recognizing my original email account"? On which page (URL)? What is the error message? Was you original OSM account set up and used?
One thing to check: did you originally register using address@googlemail.com rather than address@gmail.com? Google direct the two to the same inbox, but OSM (and indeed any other website) has no way of knowing they're the same.
