I am trying to download a small section of airport hangars into my scenery in X-Plane 10. The beginners instructions say to make sure there are buildings in the area you want to download. I do not see buildings, only roads and streets. I am very IT impaired, but is there a way to show the buildings I want to download?

QUESTION 2: I am following the instructions in the quickstart section of the tutorial. When osm.map appears in the lower left and I transfer it to OSM2xp it doesn't build. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have also been to other tutorials and viewed forums that address osm. Thnanks to anyone who could help me. Prcu

Could you add a permalink to the area that you're interested in? There's a "permalink" option at the bottom-right of the main OSM standard map.

...if there are no buildings yet in the area (see @SomeoneElse 's comment), maybe there will be some nice people willing to trace those airport buildings for you.

OpenStreetMap is a volunteer project. If nobody has yet drawn the buildings for your area of interest, they are simply not in the database.

For a quick introduction on how to add stuff to the OSM database see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Beginners%27_guide and especially http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Potlatch/Primer .

And be bold, it's not as hard as you may think!

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place to answer, but thanks to all who responded to my question about the missing buildings. I get it! And thanks for the links so I can learn. prcu
