Hi, Wlanmap.com gathers information about free wlan-hotspots. What information would be needed to integrate that feature into OSM? I mean automatically download the positions and the Tags from this updated list and show them in OSM.

If I as an OSM-user have a list of points I'd like to have marked on a map (let's presume I can handle the updateing myself) how do I integrate them in "my" map.

EDIT: ok, maybe still not clear: I would like to see those points on an userdefined map.

I've just had a look at Wlanmap.com, at the county where I live, most of the spots look to be fictitious.

well, it is not exactly what I meant. If I as an OSM-user have a list of points I'd like to have marked on a map (let's presume I can handle the updateing myself) how do I integrate them in "my" map.

Sure, it would have been nice if that proposal went through so everyone would have a benefit from it ;) thx

EDIT: ok, maybe still not clear: I would like to see those points on an userdefined map. EDIT2: I guess it's better to look for such a solution in an app-forum. Thx anyway.

Given your comment you should have a look at openlayers.

You need to know that OSM usually focus on long term, almost not movable amenities and (IMHO!) wifi hotspots are not.

If you want to map them please check out dedicated related projects as openBmap.

If you just want to present some of your own hotspots, please have a look at various dedicated online maps e.g. some of the Freifunk movement.

I think (from the user's comments) that the question is just about displaying markers (for the hotspots which are fetched from an external database). Hmm, don't you think? However, this list of related sites is nice.

Yep I think also we are talking about an overlay, but I just wanted to explain that this might be data that don't fit to OSM as others said they can/should be added. Just my 50 cent :)

Considering 15000 have been mapped so far I think the community disagrees with you.

(Just putting this here, because it's a top search result for these keywords)

As I understood, the tagging inside the OSM database was not the question. Do you really want to misuse answers just because this is a "top search result" (in some search engine)? Naah, please don't. :-)
