I am trying to digitize a building in Potlatch but I cannot close the polygon. Also I wish to add a tag "Building" but it does not appear on the left menu.

What am I doing wrong?

do you use Potlatch 2 or 1?

Just to add to this question. How do you make right-angle corners for buildings in P2? JOSM has this buildings plugin.

Found the answer, use the "make right-angled" tool.

Are you using Potlatch or Potlatch 2?

The correct spelling is "building" (no capital letters). You can add any tag as free text if you enter it manually (in Potlatch 2 switch to the "advanced" mode).

Why do you think your polygon is not closed?

That's two questions.

Answering 1: in both version of potlatch, you close polygons by clicking once on the starting node while you're drawing the outline of the shape. In both versions you start making polygons by just clicking in an empty area. You need at least three nodes placed before you can close the polygon.

To answer question 2: in PL2, make sure you have the building outline selected. Then use the dropdown menu on the left hand side to choose "Building" (under "Buildings"). You may need to scroll down to see it. Names are optional.

In PL1, press the + sign, or type "+" to add tags. Enter "building" for the key part, and "yes" for the value part.

Thank you both for your prompt replies!

I am clicking indeed once onto the start node of my building, yet it does not recognise that I am there! In old digitizing programmes of the past you could specify the "snap tolerance" of these nodes.

I am in the Opera browser on MS Windows btw. Does that make a difference? Should I try Firefox?
