I was trying to copy Maps already installed on my GARMIN device using Map Source, but the only data I can import back is Way points, POIs and Tracks not the whole map. How can I import the whole map set and not the separate POIs, Way Points and Tracks, what are the tools?

The question has nothing to do with OpenStreetMap, so you will be much more likely to get answers at a garmin forum.

What do you want to do with the map from your garmin device?

If you want to use it to amend OpenStreetMap, dont! The garmin map is most likely copyrighted and data derived from it may not be imported into OSM for legal reasons!

There's not really any easy way of transferring a map from the Garmin to MapSource. The file on the device is a single gmapsupp.img file, whereas MapSource needs individual map tiles, plus a tdb file, and appropriate registry entries.

The easiest option is to get a ready-made OSM map with an installer for MapSource. eg from Garmin.OpenStreetMap.nl. Just download the Windows version, and run the .exe file to install the maps in MapSource.

If this isn't possible, you could try using GMapTool. It can split up a gmapsupp.img file, and install in MapSource.

Or you could use Garmin BaseCamp instead. In many ways this is a replacement for MapSource, and it can read the maps directly from the device, and display them in your computer. Though this only works while your Garmin device is plugged in. So it may be faster and more convenient to just install some maps in BaseCamp anyway.

When I connect my device, Garmin Express opens. I can then click Device and see all the stuff on my device (not the data, but the meta data). A part of that is the installed maps on the device. If I open that map, I can choose to install it on the computer as well: open "On device and computer". Voila. It's in Basecamp.

Maybe this only works for maps that Garmin provides and updates.
