Why not ask your question on the new OpenStreetMap Community Forum?

In the mkgmap style files, OpenStreetMap tags are processed to Garmin point types.

Example:

place=city [0x0400 resolution 16]

Is there any list of the standard Garmin typ codes (in this example 0x0400 = city) ?

There is this list on the wiki, for certain models of Garmin, based on people's observations. Having made maps for nuvi 200W and 1310 I can confirm there is some variation between models, particularly with regard to the points of interest supported.

Also you might find the mkgmap test map useful for identifying your own device's behaviour. The test map points are identified by the hex code.
