how can we upload the map of a place made with GIS. asked 12 Feb '13, 10:35 Dinta aseerel4c26 ♦ |
It rather depends on what you mean by "a place made with GIS". If you're proposing to import data into OSM, then you'll need to have a read of this introduction and the other pages linked from there, especially these guidelines. At the very least you'll need to ensure that you merge your new data with what's already present in OSM, so that a particular feature doesn't occur twice on the final map. This merge process is likely to be at least partially a manual process. Where did the data that you have in your GIS program come from? If it's all from your own surveying, then licensing shouldn't be an issue, but if you've obtained it from another source (government, web sites or other third party sources) then you'll need to make sure that it's licensed appropriately before adding to OSM (see the import guidelines for more details). Even if it's all your own surveying, you'll also need to discuss the proposed import with the local OSM community (if it's replacing their existing data). Once you've read through those pages you'll likely have lots more specific questions, including technical ones about how best to merge the data. You may be able to find answers to some by searching the help site and the wiki, but if not please don't hesitate to ask them here. answered 12 Feb '13, 20:48 SomeoneElse ♦ |
Hi, Welcome, your starting the right way, beiing a new member and already making maps with the idea to contribute them to the OSM community. Most of the time you would upload traces out of your GPS system. So in this case could you tell us a little more about your map and the background of the material ? I took a look for you at the OSM WIKI but no show. Greetz answered 12 Feb '13, 11:13 Hendrikklaas |
I added the "import" tag to your question. If you click on the tag in the right column, then you'll find answers to similar questions.
