I've got a stream (http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/25366571 , http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/23071524 ) that is interrupted by a lake (http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/23728215 ).

I had thought of making the stream into a waterway relation, so to prevent having the metadat twice. But looking at the wiki, waterway relations do not include lakes.

If I make a waterway relation, should I just leave the lake out, or should I include the lake? Or should the stream continue through the lake?

I believe the stream should continue through the lake. See this wiki page and the section that begins "In addition to a linear description of the watercourse" suggesting that if mapping area water features on the course of a stream or river, the linear way should continue.

Thanks! I continued the stream through the lake, and merged the two streams.
