I am completely new to openstreetmap.

I'd like to correct a part of a road, wich is erroneusly marked as twoway on the map. I can't figure out whether 'oneway' or 'oneway reverse' is appropriate. Tried potlatch and josm. The visual markup after assigning the attribute is unclear (at least for me). In both editors the term 'direction' is mentioned. What does 'direction' mean? How/where is it shown?

Thank you very much in advance.

In Potlatch, the "direction of the way" is shown by the arrow in the little toolbox in the corner. If you can only travel on it in one direction, the way itself will have arrows on it. See these two pictures of an English motorway:

M5 Northbound and M5 Southbound

Once you've made it oneway, look at the arrows on the way on the map. If they point in the right direction, that's good. If they point in the wrong direction, change to "oneway reverse".

For other editors (iD, JOSM, and others), there's an explanation for identifying the direction of a way in the wiki.
