Ideas about what exactly? And what API key are you referring to in your title? OSM doesn't require any API key.

See switch to osm, and the beginner's guide. The rest of the wiki has plenty of information too. You'll need to ask more specific questions if you want an answer that is less generic.

It might also be helpful to read this previous question and also this one.
