I have a few questions with regards to using this as a gps

1 - using this with android 4.1 OFFline i would like to download all of north america and use it on a phone with android OFFline also if i can do this how and what app is the best also depending on how big the map data file would be, i would like to have the map on an external usb drive via usb otg cable as my phone does not have an extra memory card slot

2 - basically the same as #1 but using it on a laptop running windows xp and 7 im currently using streets and trips and love it but of coarse always having to pay for new software and now MS limits the number of computer you can install it on to only 2 so if i can do this on a laptop, how ? what software is the best and as with #1 i would like all of NA

thanks

First: generally have a look at the Android collection in the OSM wiki ... look for offline map data storage ... try Osmand or mapFactorNavigator free.

Second: also hint to to Software collection.
