Hello I worked so hard to edit openstreetmap around my area (south of Isfahan city, Iran)and I waited for the new IMG file for my Garmin 62s GPS. when I uploaded the file to my GPS I saw many many roads added to the map (that I created before)but not the buildings, areas, and etc... only some bus station and banks was added but more than 90% was missing (like parks). Does it take time for that to complete everything inside IMG map?

The maps created by mkgmap are vector maps that work on a range of Garmin devices.

I've not seen one, but as I understand it the GPSMAP 62s supports actual pictures as an alternative to vector maps (see for example here).

There's a process described here that could convert a JPG of an area into a map background that you could perhaps try. You can export a JPG directly from the "export" tab on the main map, and can increase the scale to get a larger image. I'd try a small area first - there are limits on the size of image that you can create directly from the export tab (though there are other options available to create images) and probably also limits on the size of JPG that you can load on the GPS.

Obviously, while "looking pretty", a simple picture can't be a routable map in the same way that a vector map created by mkgmap can be.

Converting a JPG of an area into a map background. I exported one but I have no idea that how to do that. maybe just copy to JPG folder of Garmin 62s I tried mkgamp and finally I got my real map with all details I made but unfortunately when you specify an area as something like university and you put areas inside that for buildings, it's all will covered by university colour inside my GPS. it seems that 62s uses same colour for everything!

(re copying the JPG across) I believe that you're looking for the "Send Your Custom Map to Your Device" section of the page that I linked to earlier, which uses Google Earth.

(re mkgmap) it uses whatever colours you tell it to use. You do that with a "style definition" - the easiest way to create a new one is to recursively copy the "default" style (it's a series of files in a folder called "default") and edit that however you want. Perhaps start by removing whatever's causing the "university colour" to sit over the top of everything else from your style file?

Where did you get your image?

There are lots of different OSM maps for Garmin devices each having different priorities and displaying different objects. Either the one you used wasn't up-to-date or the map author(s) chose to not display buildings at all. This is very likely because including buildings significantly increases the map size in more detailed mapped areas.

If none of the available Garmin OSM maps matches your preferences you can also create your own one with the help of mkgmap and include all the objects you want to see on your device.

Thank you for your help. I downloaded my maps from http://grmin.openstreetmap.nl and I thought that it's the only source for Garmin GPS maps from openstreetmap data :) now I download mkgmap and I will try it soon :)
